FAQs

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent make-up, also known as micropigmentation, is a cosmetic procedure to create long-lasting eyeliner, lipliner or eyebrow definition.

Powder effect is done with a shading technique using a permanent makeup device, which is similar to a tattoo gun.

How long will it last?

Permanent make-up last up to to 3 years. Colour boost is recommended every year if you'd like to keep the effect.

Does it hurt?

The procedure is described as slightly uncomfortable by some and pain free to others, everyone has a different pain threshold but for most people they are surprised at how little pain there is, others have been known to fall asleep! Clients are never rushed and appointments are booked with this in mind so I can give each individual enough time.

Is permanent makeup safe?

Yes, all my pigments are medical grade and hypo allergenic, I pride myself in following strict hygiene standards. At Sapphire Brow Parlour, the procedures are performed under sterile conditions, using only disposable needle cartridges and with digitally controlled implantation device. A patch test is carried out at least 12 hours before any treatment to ensure there will be no allergic reactions.

How long does the procedure take?

Procedures take between 2 – 2,5 hours, this includes drawing on time for the initial procedure where the eyebrows or lips will be drawn on and the procedure will not be started until myself and the client are happy with the shape and style.  I always say to allow yourself 2,5 hours in total for your first appointment and 90 mins for the second, although most treatments are completed before this time.

Will my eyebrows be dark?

Immediately after the procedure your eyebrows will be 70% darker and 25% thicker than when healed, this is perfectly natural and they will fade and shrink in the first week of the healing process.  I always start off on the first appointment with a lighter colour as it is easier to add a darker colour in the second treatment than to take it away.  Once your makeup is healed it will look perfectly natural.

How do I prepare for permanent makeup?

Sweat will prevent pigment from healing into the skin, do not exercise on the day of your appointment. Avoid alcohol and caffeine 1 day before procedure to minimize any oozing, bleeding or swelling. Do not take coumadin, aspirin, ibuprofen, niacin, fish oil or vitamin E 3 days prior to procedure.

How long does permanent makeup take to heal?

Once the skin has been broken the body automatically enters its wound healing process in response. This process is complex and for Permanent Makeup treatments it typically lasts between 4-8 weeks.

What should you not do after permanent makeup?

Avoid hot tubs, steam rooms, public pools, sweaty exercise, or submerging pigmented skin in water for the first 10 days. Avoid direct sunlight or tanning beds for 2 weeks after the tattoo. Avoid putting makeup on the area for the first week. Avoid facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
